Curb Clutter... Create A Style File

It's  A fresh New Year...that always makes me want to ORGANIZE everything!

This year I am (once again) trying to curb my slight addiction to decorating magazines (occupational hazard???!) I always hang on to the glossies for inspiration for clients and myself. So I'm creating a STYLE FILE. I ordered a file tote bag, monogrammed with my purpose...and I am committed to ripping the pretty pictures out and filing them by catagory for easy reference. The bag is staying right next to my favorite chair (which mysteriously attracts ALL catalogs and mags with in a 50 ft range).

I know that a beautiful room can quickly be overshadowed by clutter, so I hope my solution for my "trouble" spot inspires YOU to conquer your trouble spots!

The bag is from Thirty-One /the All-in-One Organizer /color Textured Twill with font style 10. www.mythirtyone.com/BagsofJoy   folder-tabs are from Wal-Mart

The first box to wrap!

Here's an excellent holiday tip. Get a large box, a nice square or rectangle one.
You know, the kind that's easy to wrap. Now put your "everyday" accessories in it that normally live on your mantle and side tables. Then gift wrap the box and add a bow. Now you have your first holiday decoration and you have eliminated the problem of where to store your treasures. Then open this box last, when your ready to put away all the holiday glitter and get organized for the New Year.

Birdcage Chandeliers

Have you seen these Birdcage Chandeliers?

This one is from Restoration Hardware and it simply delights me because I love to see "fresh" ideas in interior design. Chandeliers aren't new and birdcages  certainly aren't new but the combination sure is!

This is yet another example of how using things that by already exist  in a new way, can add a sweet newness to your home!

As an Interior  Decorator, I often begin a room makeover by first rearranging what is already in the room (which some call an interior redesign) this gives me a creative opportunity to use furniture, art and accessories in a fresh way...in a new spot...for a new look.  I love to "shop" the in the house first...before I ever need to shop at a store for new things.

Simply rearranging your rooms can be an inexpensive way to get a whole new look.

Heres a tip from the Professionals: Next time you want to rearrange your room, don't JUST push the sofa to a new position...invite a friend over and EMPTY THE WHOLE ROOM...start anew. Sure it takes a bit longer but when  its finished ...its very rewarding !

Interior Design Inspiration in Mid Town Atlanta

One of the best perks of living in Atlanta is the excellent shopping and design inspiration!  This weekend I visited the new Jonathan Adler store on Howell Mill...Oh my!  I loved the "Happy Chic"(Adlers tag line) feel of this store! Bright colors, clean lines, with whimsy and sheer JOY!
I've been to Jonathan's store on SoHo (NYC) and I remember being jealous we didn't have his happy chic feel in the South....but now we do. Yea!
In this bummer of an economy, its just not always feasable to toss everything in your living room and start a new...but we can start with some cheerful paint...and not taking design quite so seriously. Your home should make you smile, even if its not your DREAM HOME..."love the one your with". Embrace your budget and your home (warts and all) and lets use some good old fashion creativity.  Of course if your not quite the creative type...or you just need a  fresh perspective...give me a call I'd be happy to help you.
